I read the article posted by Tamara Nuremberg on Condoms, which every one should read. But I'd like to infor all of you about a job that I had, when I was sentenced to "Community Service", for DUI.

I was assigned to work at the sewage plant and for 2 days. My job was to stand at the water tanks, for seperation, and to rake out the condoms that floated in the water. Folks, comdoms don't sink. Neither does flushing them down the toilet get rid of them. They have to be manually removed from the water. Not only does this cost us money but the ones that get through do not bio-degrade. It's a form of polution of our drinking water.

Condoms also kill water life from fish to birds and other preadators.

When you use a condom make sure the man firmly grasps it, on his penis, when removing himself from you. Instuct the man to remvoe it from himself and to roll it into some tissue so it may be disposed of in the trash. This should all be done by the man unless you want to wear latex gloves while doing it.

Do I do this? You bet.

The SP I've been with will flush condoms down the toilet. She does this to "help get rid of any evidence." I'll bet that many SPs (at least in the States) do this for the same reason.

good post, hopefully it will cause more to stop and think before further contributing to the pollution of our waters.

personally, i usually like to gently remove a gentleman's condom myself (by hand), in such a way to make it part of the overall pleasant experience. then i dispose of it in the trash always, would never think to flush it.

I know this is off the subject, but I really like your website. Very cool, indeed.

Take care,

Hey Leslie,

I agree, Jades site is really nice. I hope to become as well established to put up a beautiful site like that. I visited the creators site. It seems to be a bit expensive, but well worth it.

And what about ecological friendliness of condoms?... I mean, can they be naturally decomposed, like some of milk packings? Or maybe they are "eternal" like plastic bottles. Does anybody know?

Very good post! Well done!

I prefer usually not to flash it. However, some clients, even if in hotels always do as they want to get rid of any evidence. Other way would be to take them back wrapped in tissue but who wants to talk around with used condoms, - like in Blues Borthers...lol

Good day

Lol...Apie. Good sense of humour!
correct, many men do wantto flash evidence away. Might be difficult to change their habit. Best would be a way to find bio condoms. Good idea! Anything already available, - possible?

Hi everyone!
And aren't modern condoms "bio" ones? Latex, as I know, is fully natural material, isn't it?

Some may think this is funny but do you save used insulin needles? Do you save any thing that is a biological bi product? I don't think so. Do you think viruses and bacteria die in water? Quite the opposite, they thrive. Our water is already polluted and we are in serious danger because of this. If you have seen the news there have been MARS out beaks in the U.S., a staph infection super bug that closed schools in two states.

I do not believe that latex is a natural bio degradable product. The fact is that latex is used in surgical gloves and would not be a biological material, if it was it could not be used for surgical reasons because it could transfer dieases and other infections.

Remember back in the days before HIV, AIDS and all the other STDs? Some condoms were manufactured out of sheep skin, it was stated on the package that it would not prevent STDs. Any thing that is natural or orgainc will hold bacteria and viriuses.

Even if it was an organic material it would take time to decomose. Did you know that it takes an orange peel 10 years to decompose and banans peels take 3 yrs. This is not a joke I worked on a study of litter that people discard from their cars while driving.

For people who live in countries where they have highway maintenace it can cost billions of dollars a year to clean up the trash people throw out of their cars. Glass never decomposes, neither do tires nor aluminin cans. If you discard your trash on the road ways your increased gas taxes help to cover the cost of litter removal so, next time you think of throwing something out of the car remember, you are going to pay one way or the other for having it picked up. In California alone over $30 million is spent on litter removal every year on our road ways.

Perhaps not skin but guts? I've read something about this.
A usual Coca-Cola bottle can "live" more than 70 years... awesome!

Latex will decompose with heat and also with UV radiation (e.g., sunlight). Latex barriers (condoms, dental dams, gloves) should be protected from exposure to heat and UV in order avoid compromising their usefulness.
