Most people don't realize that it's illegal for private individuals to own gold in "the land of the free". You tell someone that and they think you're crazy, "I'm wearing a gold ring right now!" they'll tell you. Yes, you can own gold jewelry and gold coins with collectable value...but you cannot own (horde...the government term) gold bullion. (see Presidential Executive Order 6102: http://www.the-privateer.com/1933-gold-confiscation.html ) Notice in the text of the executive order that it is to be turned into the "Federal Reserve Bank". The FRB is a PRIVATE institution...it is NOT a government agency!!! My grandparents remember being forced to give up their gold!!!
Why do I bring this up now? Because the Feds raided "Liberty Dollar"...an organization dedicated to the return to "real Money", ie gold, silver, and other precious metals. If you know economics, you understand that real money doesn't have inflation. Only unbacked currency with no real value has inflation. To illustrate...if I had a $20 gold coin 150 years ago I could buy myself a really beautiful designer dress. Today I couldn't buy that dress with $20...but I could buy that dress with the amount of gold that was in that coin.
Here is a link to the news story about the raid: http://www.libertydollarofsanjose.org/index.html
One way to regain control of our country is to regain control of our money. Support bartering and "real money". I'm certainly open to bartering for my services.

That's quiet true. If you own bullion it must be kept in a depositatory (?) where you buy it. If it is sent to you a form must be filled out and filed with the govt.
Gold coins and platinum have be minted by many govts with a $ value attached to them but as collector items they are more valuable.
I have been collecting silver proof sets since I was a Boy Scout, even earned a merit badge for it. I still collect them and have them back to the 1950's. My uncle was a Navy Chief Petty Officer and he stated sending me proof set from all over the world.
I have some Eisenhower proof silver dollars that are valued at over $100 each. The number of coins minted increases their value. The less minted the more valuable they are.
You are correct. In the 1920 gold currency was outlawed and the govt collect "all" the coins and melted them down into bullion and is now stored in Ft. Knox. When some of these Double Eagles are discoverd they sell for 100 or thousands of $.
Part of the reason to return to gold and silver coins is to combat inflation.

Worse than not being able to own gold, I fear we are on track for not even being able to use currency.
First of all, it's really easy not to need to carry cash. We have our Credit cards and debit cards. Even McDonalds accepts them now. So the need for carrying cash is much less prevalent than it used to be. Shoot! You can even play cashless Monopoly now.
Second, we hear on the news about all those baddies from other countries (I won't say the T word, or I'll have big bro on my behind) are laundering money here. In order to catch em, it would be better if no one used cash.
Here is an article with other reasons.
http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2002/6/28/181711.shtml/ Google "cashless society" and see what comes up.
Needless to say, that probably wouldn't be very good for us.

Yes, you are right, this is an extended problem.
But why do you dislike globalization so much? I guess it makes our life more convenient.

What kind of bartering? I'm fairly open...I just want to be prepared for an economic crash. What I would ideally barter for: jewelry, a new car (or price break), rent on an incall location in Santa Fe, firearms /ammunition...like I said, I'd be pretty open to bartering for goods and services I need. Someday we might all be bartering ; )

I've got a 12 guage shotgun shell reloader. I'm only kidding but I do understand what you're saying.
If you ever have to have a crown removed from a tooth, keep it. It's made of gold.
Have a Living trust made and make sure you put in that all gold teeth are to be removed and given to your family same with jewlery.
If you have any old Oak Leaf pennies keep them. The copper in them is worth more than ever. That's why the govt changed them to zinc centers. People were melting down their pennies and selling the copper for $20.00 a pound.
Although the use of lead is outlawed it is expensive as hell so save your old car batteries as well.

Globalizatio is nothing more than a plan to keep track of the movement of all the people in the world and to centeralize banking. The end result is that the rich get richer and we get fucked.

So we need to figure out how to use those rich folk instead of the other way around. Bartering may help in that end.
Did you know that the female Bonobos (kind of ape) sometimes have sex for food? Interesting lil fact, ain't it?

An average oligarch has enough money to pay many women, but not enough power to f*ck them all, and this is a problem)...not all of them have a habit to meet an escort just for a pleasant conversation. So our task becomes more and more creative...

I will only use cash myself and recieve cash myself. I know that many people carry credit cards and such and that may be ok for them; but not for me. Those things get people into trouble big time. I use to have one myself years ago and I was responsible with it; but it still costs me a lot of money because of the interests on it. After I payed off the bill; I cut up the card and threw it away. Afterall, it's always better not to have paper trail everywhere. Even though many might believe that there will be no more money to go around; there will always be money around and I can promise you that someone will always have money somewhere in the world. Sometimes you can't believe everything you hear even if it's from gov't or any others. You can listen to what they say but they don't know and noone really knows for sure about one thing or another until it happens. So, be free, have fun, live life to the fullest, don't worry about what will and won't happen, be friendly,be safe, have wisdom and knowledge and use it to do good in life for yourselves and for others, don't live in fear, and always trust and have faith that things will be ok even when you can't see that things are ok. We all can make a difference in life and we all can also make those differences by voting for the candidates that best suit what we are looking for and wanting in changes that we want made or staying the same. That's why it is so important to vote.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If we all want different results; we have to do something different. So, all in all; I choose not to worry about what will or won't happen and just live life, do what I must in life, and of course, vote. I hope you all will vote as well and I hope that you all will have great lives!
Kisses To All,
12pleaseu

Um, you guys know that you can invest in "real" money aka gold etc. Your investment will appreciate significantly every year and its relatively safe, unless someone pulls an oceans 14...
And for real, globalization is a great thing, we just need to hop on the right bus.
Knowledge is power.

Yeah, knowledge is power, which is why I say globalization is bad, because I want to have the freedom to have knowledge, rather than be a slave to some rich pompous jackass.
